DUCKS, chickens and turkeys, all most definitely not for Christmas, filled Horncastle Town Hall on Sunday as The East of England Poultry Club’s show got underway.
Exhibitors came from across Lincolnshire, while others travelled from Norfolk, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to display around 250 entries.
Jack Pallot of Horncastle, who transported his poultry in a wheelbarrow to the town hall from his home nearby, won a first prize with his Blue Laced Wyandotte in the best large heavy breed section.
Ben Stacey of Sleaford exhibited the overall show champion and was thrilled to win Best Juvenile with his Modern Game bantam.
The egg competition attracted 50 entries but this number was down on previous shows due to hens not laying because of the weather.
The next show will be at Stickney Village Hall on March 8.
Poultry club meetings are held at Revesby Village Hall on the second Monday of each month at 8pm and all are welcome to attend.
Jack Bray will be the guest speaker at the December meeting on the subject of bees.
